Keeping Your Tea Towels Fresh and Odor-less

Tea towels are meant to be highly absorbent so they can dry dishes and kitchen counters effectively. Linen tea towels or linen kitchen towels are the most absorbent ones. The downside of the high absorbency is tea towels also tend to absorb odors from food or from being damp the long time. Using tea towels over and over exacerbates this problem. Moisture often causes tea towels to develop a sour smell. Oils from food can make your linen tea towels smell rancid. To avoid this problem one only need to change some habits around the kitchen and the way one washes these cotton or linen tea towels.

  • The first piece of advice 
is to hang those kitchen towels that are still clean but damp in a well-ventilated area immediately after use. You can re-use your tea towels a couple of times if you have used them only to dry clean dishes or your hands and the towels are relatively dry. The main thing here is that they have to become dry again quickly. Slow drying leads to an unpleasant odor.

Keeping Bath Towels Fresh Without Bleaching Them

Imagine when you step out of the shower, fresh, clean and nice-smelling, and find only smelly towels to wrap yourself up in. Yuck! And it is quite usual situation. Thing is, when a wet towel or bath sheet hangs in a warm, moist bathroom, mold and mildew tend to grow in the fibers of the bathroom linen, causing a musty, stinky odor. One can fight the mold and mildew with some bleach, but while this removes the odor, bleaching can also remove color from your bath towels.
