Softening Your Linen Towels

Probably most of you know, that new linen towels tend to be quite hard, crispy and hardly absorb humidity the first few times that you use them. Since that is quite a big problem for most linen lovers, we prepared a list of tips to make your new linen towels softer and more absorbent right after you buy them.

Probably some of you have already tried it, but if you haven’t – go ahead and wash your new towels several times before using them. It is one of the easiest ways to soften them and you do not have to worry about ruining your towels when you even haven’t started using them. When you buy new linen towels, they have a kind of a coat on them, and by washing them before using you remove the coat and make them more absorbent and a lot softer.

Rinse with vinegar

Sometimes pre-washing does not help and you have to take more serious measures. Wash your newly bought linen towels in hot water a few times, and rinse them in warm water with one cup of white vinegar. The vinegar will remove excess dye, fabric softener and other materials that are making your towels rough and stiff.

Say no to fabric softener

The most common mistake that people are making is using fabric softener on such items as linen towels. Fabric softener adds a slippery coat to the fabric which makes it less absorbent and presses it up. Stop using fabric softener on your towels and you will see that they will get a lot softer and more absorbent in only a few washes.

After trying out these tricks your towels should be soft, comfortable, just like the old ones that you loved.
