Keeping Your Tea Towels Fresh and Odor-less

February 14, 2013 Posted by admin

Tea towels are meant to be highly absorbent so they can dry dishes and kitchen counters effectively. Linen tea towels or linen kitchen towels are the most absorbent ones. The downside of the high absorbency is tea towels also tend to absorb odors from food or from being damp the long time. Using tea towels over and over exacerbates this problem. Moisture often causes tea towels to develop a sour smell. Oils from food can make your linen tea towels smell rancid. To avoid this problem one only need to change some habits around the kitchen and the way one washes these cotton or linen tea towels.

  • The first piece of advice
is to hang those kitchen towels that are still clean but damp in a well-ventilated area immediately after use. You can re-use your tea towels a couple of times if you have used them only to dry clean dishes or your hands and the towels are relatively dry. The main thing here is that they have to become dry again quickly. Slow drying leads to an unpleasant odor.

Huckaback Towels & Linen Towels

April 19, 2012 Posted by admin

A term “huckaback towels” is probably familiar for all those looking for quality towels. As this blog is called Huckaback Towels and is dedicated to quality home textile, let me introduce to you this type of towels.

Huckaback is a special rough weave of cotton or linen fabric. It is most often used to produce cloth towels: bath towels, tea towels, hand towels, dish towels. Because of this special loose weave the surface of the fabric is uneven with lots of space for threads to widen when the moisture is absorbed. This quality makes a towel highly absorbent and also results in a micro-massaging effect of the towel. The huckaback weaving pattern comes from the ancient textile traditions of Germany and Scandinavia.

Although cotton huckaback towels can be found on the market, linen towels are those most often associated with the term. Linen bath towels, linen tea towels, linen dish towels – mostly all are huckaback. (more…)
